സിലോൺ_പാണ്ഡ്യ കോപ്പർ നാണയം (The Horizontal Fishes and Bull Type)

ഒൻപതാം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിന്റെ മധ്യത്തോടെ തെക്കേ ഇന്ത്യയിലെ പ്രബല ശക്തിയായി മാറിയ പാണ്ഡ്യരാജാക്കന്മാർ പിന്നീട് അവരുടെ അധിനിവേശം വ്യാപിപ്പിച്ചത് ശ്രീലങ്കയിലേക്കായിരുന്നു. ശ്രീമാര ശ്രീവല്ലഭയാണ് ആദ്യമായി ശ്രീലങ്കയുടെ മേൽ അധിനിവേശ ശ്രമം നടത്തിയ പാണ്ഡ്യ രാജാവ്. 833_53 കാലഘട്ടത്തിൽ സേന 1 ന്റെ ഭരണകാലത്താണ് അനുരാധപുരം അടക്കമുള്ള പ്രദേശങ്ങൾ ശ്രീമാര പാണ്ഡ്യൻ കീഴടക്കുന്നത്. പക്ഷെ ഈ ആധിപത്യം അധികനാൾ നീണ്ടു നിന്നില്ല. തുടര്‍ന്ന് പല കാലങ്ങളിലായി പല പാണ്ഡ്യരാജാക്കന്മാരും സിലോൺ പിടിച്ചെടുക്കാൻ ശ്രമിച്ചെങ്കിലും ജാതവർമ വീരപാണ്ഡ്യൻ (1258),ജാതവർമ സുന്ദരപാണ്ഡ്യൻ (1263)എന്നിവരുടെ ശ്രമങ്ങൾ മാത്രമാണ് എടുത്തു പറയത്തക്ക രീതിയിലുള്ള വിജയം നേടിയത്. എന്നിരുന്നാൽ തന്നെ സിലോണിനു മേലുള്ള പാണ്ഡ്യവംശ ആധിപത്യങ്ങൾക്കെല്ലാം ചുരുങ്ങിയ ആയുസ് മാത്രമേ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നുള്ളൂ.
എങ്കിലും സിലോൺ_പാണ്ഡ്യ നാണയങ്ങളിൽ ആദ്യ കാല പാണ്ഡ്യൻമാരുടെയും മധ്യകാല പാണ്ഡ്യൻമാരുടെയും സംഭാവനകളുണ്ട്. ചിത്രത്തിൽ കാണുന്ന 'Horizontal Fishes and Bull Type coin' ആദ്യകാല സിലോൺ_പാണ്ഡ്യ നാണയങ്ങളിൽപ്പെട്ടതാണ്. പരകർമ ബാഹുവിന്റെ നേതൃത്വത്തിലുള്ള സിംഹള അധിനിവേശം ശ്രീലങ്കയിൽ നടക്കുന്നതിനും ഒരു നൂറ്റാണ്ട് മുമ്പ് അടിച്ചിറക്കിയ നാണയമാണ് ഇതെന്ന് കരുതപ്പെടുന്നു.

നാണ്യമുഖം :_ലംബമായ രണ്ട് ദീപസ്തംഭങ്ങൾക്കിടയിലായി തലയുയർത്തി കിടക്കുന്ന ഋഷഭം(നന്തി). മുകളിൽ ചന്ദ്രക്കല. (ബുദ്ധിസത്തിൽ നിന്ന് ശൈവഭക്തരായിരുന്ന മാറിയ പാണ്ഡ്യൻമാർ അവരുടെ ശിവഭക്തിയെ സൂചിപ്പിക്കാനാണ് ചന്ദക്കലയും നന്തിയും തങ്ങളുടെ അടയാളങ്ങളായി സ്വീകരിച്ചിരുന്നത്)

നാണയത്തിന്റെ മറുഭാഗത്ത് ലംബമായ രണ്ട് ദീപസ്തംഭങ്ങൾക്കിടയിലായി തിരശ്ചീനമായി രണ്ട് മത്സ്യങ്ങളെ ആലേഖനം ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ട്. പാണ്ഡ്യൻമാരുടെ ഔദ്യോഗിക ചിഹ്നമാണ് ഈ മത്സ്യങ്ങൾ. മുകളിലെ മത്സ്യം ഇടതുഭാഗത്തേയ്ക്കും താഴത്തെ മത്സ്യം വലതുഭാഗത്തേക്കും നീന്തുന്നതായി ചിത്രീകരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. ഏറ്റവും താഴെ സമാന്തരമായ മൂന്ന് രേഖകളും ഏറ്റവും മുകളിൽ ചന്ദക്കലയും കാണാം... എന്റെ കളക്ഷനിൽ നിന്നും

By the middle of the ninth century, the Pandyans has risen to the position of ascendancy in Southern India and invaded Northern Sri Lanka. The first Pandya invitation of Ceylon was during the reign of Sena1(833_53).Pandya King Sri Mara Sri Vallabha invaded the island and he after loot. Then Jathavarma Vira pandya invaded Ceylon around 1258 CE
and Jathavarma Sundara Pandya invaded around 1263.But all their invations seems to have been shot lived.
The Pandyas Coins of Ceylon come from both the Ancient period as well as the Medival period. The following 'Horizontal Fishes and Bull' type coin for instance is believed to be from the Ancient period.

Obverse :_Humped bull seated right with lamp on either side. Crescent above and stand below.

Reverse :_Two fishes horizontal upper facing left and lower right between two lamps. Crescent above and stand below represented by three parallel lines;the middle one being shorter than the other two.
The 'Horizontal fish and bull type 'seems to belong to a period of a century earlier than the sinhala invation by Parakarma Bahu I.
